BUIES CREEK, NC -- Sammy Sue Wilson carded a three-over-par 75 to pace Elon to second place after the opening round of the Fighting Camel Classic Monday afternoon at Keith Hills Country Club.

Wilson fired a 37 on the back nine after shooting a 38 on the front nine of the 6,075-yard course. Her score earned her a share of third place in the 42-golfer tournament.

Entering Tuesday's second (and final) round, Elon (317) sits behind host Campbell (300), but ahead of East Carolina (321), Charleston Southern (328), Eastern Kentucky (336), Appalachian State (337), Winthrop (345) and Gardner-Webb (357) in the eight-team standings.

All of Wilson's teammates -- Katie Knoepffler (Tied 11th, 39-41--80), Becky Poindexter (Tied 14th, 41-40--81), Michelle Williams (Tied 14th, 43-38--81) and Laura Orlen (Tied 20th, 42-41--83) -- joined her in the top 20.
