SUNSET BEACH, NC -- Laura Orlen hammered a two-over-par 74 Monday as fifth-place Elon recovered from its first-round 320 to post a second-round 306 at the 2002 PUPS Big South Conference Championship at Sea Trail Resort.

Orlen (80-74--154) golfed her way from a tie for 20th to a share of 13th in the 35-player field. Teammate Sammy Sue Wilson (79-75--154) also snagged a piece of 13th place on the 6,031-yard course.

Entering the tournament's third (and final) round on Tuesday, Elon trails UNC Wilmington (296-299--595), host Coastal Carolina (298-304--602), three-time defending Big South champion Charleston Southern (302-314--616) and Winthrop (311-313--624). The Phoenix leads Radford (325-313--638) and Birmingham-Southern (327-318--645).

Becky Poindexter (19th, 78-80--158), Katie Knoepffler (Tied 20th, 83-77--160) and Alison Mangini (29th, 85-82--167) have all contributed to the Elon effort.
