ELON, NC -- The Chattanooga Lady Mocs found the back of the net seven times on Friday afternoon to defeat the Elon Phoenix 7-1 in Southern Conference women's soccer action from Rudd Field. The victory improved UTC to 9-5-3 overall and 6-2-3 in league play while Elon fell to 3-14-0, 2-8-0. The loss also eliminates the Phoenix from contention for a Southern Conference Tournament spot.
Elfa Erlingsdottir opened the scoring in the 15th minute, depositing a pass from Maya Peel past the Phoenix keeper. The Lady Mocs upped the lead to 2-0 when Diana Jallo, the league's leading goal-scorer, scored the first of her three goals in the 26th minute. Brooke Crandall assisted on Jallo's first goal. UTC added two more first half scores as both Melyna Valdez and Crandall scored. Amelie Fogleberg and Lisa Becht earned assists.
Jallo struck for goal two on the day in the 58th minute on an unassisted goal to make the score 5-0. Elon would net its only goal of the day when Jaclyn Immordino scored her first collegiate goal on an assist from Lacey Whitmer in the 65th minute.
Crandall would score her second goal of the afternoon in the 75th minute on an assist from Fogleberg and Jallo finished off the hat trick in the 90th minute on an assist from Erlingsdottir. Jallo now has 15 goals on the season.
Kara Zagol and Jessica Geguzis split the 90 minutes in net evenly for the Phoenix. Zagol grabbed four saves and Geguzis two. Stacey Matthiessen went the distance in goal for Chattanooga, making four saves.
Chattanooga outshot Elon 33-13 overall and 13-5 on goal. The Lady Mocs also held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
The Phoenix will end its season on Sunday afternoon at Rudd Field with a 1:00 p.m. contest against Georgia Southern. Chattanooga will wait to see what seed it will receive into the Southern Conference Tournament that begins on Nov. 6 in Greensboro, NC.
