Elon Closes Regular Season Against Hampton And Charleston

ELON – The Elon University women's soccer team (9-2-4, 3-2-2 CAA) wraps up its regular season this week as it chases the final spot in the CAA Tournament.

The Phoenix will travel to face Hampton (5-10-1, 0-7-0 CAA) on Thursday before hosting College of Charleston (8-6-2, 4-3-1 CAA) on Sunday

The 
Hampton Series 
  • Elon has won its four previous meetings against Hampton, all of which have come since 2019.  
  • The Phoenix defeated the Pirates, 6-0, at Rudd last season on Senior Day. Five different Phoenix scored in the contest, with Lydia Totten notching a brace.  
  • In 2023 against Hampton, Elon scored a Division I program-record nine goals. The Phoenix racked up nine assists in the contest, the most in its Division I era. Grace Gelhaus scored a hat trick in the match, becoming the first Elon player to do so since 2017. McKenna Dalfonso recorded her 21st career shutout to become Elon's all-time career leader in clean sheets.  
  • This will be Elon's second time facing Hampton on the road. Elon defeated the Pirates, 8-0, in their lone away match against the Pirates.  
 
The Charleston Series 
  • Elon leads the head-to-head series against Charleston, 13-10-2.  
  • The Cougars snapped Elon's five-match winning streak in the series in the 2024 regular season, but the Phoenix avenged the loss in the CAA Tournament quarterfinals, defeating Charleston, 2-1, in a match played at Stony Brook. Gelhaus scored the game-winning goal for Elon in the 86th minute.  
  • Elon is 5-4-1 against the Cougars in home matches and has won the last two matches played between the teams at Rudd. Their most recent encounter at Rudd came in the 2023 season finale, with Elon winning, 3-0.  
  • The Phoenix and Cougars have met at least once every season since 2014. Elon is 7-2-1 in the last 10 meetings.  
 
Last Time Out 
  • Elon extended its winning streak to three matches Sunday with a 3-1 victory over Towson at Rudd Field.  
  • Isa Murdock scored the first goal of the contest in the 17th minute to give the Phoenix the lead on an assist from Gelhaus. It was Murdock's second goal of the week after also scoring Thursday versus Drexel. 
  • The Tigers leveled the game in the 21st minute. The score remained 1-1 entering halftime.  
  • Murdock and Gelhaus reversed roles in the 55th minute, with Murdock springing Gelhaus down the left wing. After shaking off a defender, Gelhaus lifted a shot into the goal with her right foot to restore Elon's one-goal advantage. 
  • Elon earned a corner opportunity in the 76th minute. Ava Hellner sent the ball into the box, and after Megan Dwyer headed it, Miranda Dumornay knocked the ball out of the air by the far post and into the net for her first career tally. 
  • The Tigers continued to apply pressure in the closing minutes, attempting seven more shots after Dumornay scored. Elon weathered the storm to hold on for a two-goal victory. 
  • Towson outshot Elon, 13-8, but the Phoenix finished with a 6-3 edge in shots on goal. The Phoenix is now 5-2-4 this season when being outshot by its opponent. 
  • Gelhaus, Jordan GreenJessica Hill and Alexis Pierce all logged the full 90 minutes for the Phoenix. 
  • Amy Ollendorff made her season debut, starting a match for the first time since Aug. 24, 2023, at Longwood. The senior forward saw 12 minutes of action. 
 
CAA Charge 
  • Elon is unbeaten in its last four CAA matches with three wins and a draw.  
  • The streak began on Oct. 2 with a 1-1 tie against CAA South champion UNCW. Elon has won three straight matches since against Campbell, Drexel and Towson.  
  • The Phoenix has picked up 10 of the last 12 possible points in CAA play after earning just one of the first nine available points to start conference play.  
  • Gelhaus has scored the game-winning goal in each of Elon's last three wins. The winning tally against Campbell came in the 85th minute of a 2-1 victory.  
  • Elon outscored Drexel and Towson last week by a combined score of 7-2. The Phoenix has scored 10 goals in the last four matches.  
  • The Phoenix is up to fourth place in the CAA South standings with 11 points. Elon is just two points behind Charleston for the third and final tournament spot.  
  • Either Elon or Charleston will secure the final spot from the South Division for the CAA Tournament.  
 
Murdock Making Plays 
  • Murdock earned the first CAA weekly honor of her career Monday, taking home CAA Offensive Player of the Week. She scored six points (2g, 2a) in Elon's wins over Drexel and Towson. 
  • Murdock leads the Phoenix with a career-best 18 points, with six goals and six assists on the campaign. She is currently tied for third in the CAA in points.  
  • The redshirt junior has six goals, tied with Gelhaus for the most on the Phoenix. Her 36 shot attempts and 18 shots on goal lead all Elon players 
  • Murdock also leads the Phoenix with a career-high six assists on the campaign. She has registered a goal or assist in nine of 15 appearances.  
  • Murdock scored in two of Elon's first three games this season against VCU and Gardner-Webb. She tallied her third goal of the campaign on Sept. 10 against South Carolina State and delivered her fourth on Sept. 27 at William & Mary. 
  • Murdock is up to 14 career goals, as she is one of four current Elon players, along with Brehio, Gelhaus and Hoschek, with double-digits as a Phoenix.    
 
GG   
  • Gelhaus, a preseason All-CAA selection, joined Murdock by earning a weekly award from the conference Monday, as she was named CAA Co-Defensive Player of the Week. 
  • The defender is second on the Phoenix with 15 points this season. She notched five points last week in Elon's two victories with two goals and an assist  
  • Gelhaus has set a career high this season with six goals, three of which have come in the last three matches. All three of those goals have been game winners for the Phoenix 
  • Gelhaus leads all CAA defenders in points and is tied for sixth in the CAA in goals, along with Murdock  
  • The junior scored two goals in a 21-second span in Elon's 4-0 victory over VMI on Aug. 17. She is one of two Elon players, along with Gabby Hoschek, to record a brace this season.  
  • Gelhaus is fourth on the team with 19 shots and has the best shot percentage (0.316) of any Phoenix with seven or more attempts this season. She has logged the fourth most minutes by Phoenix position players this season (1,136) after going the full 90 against Towson. 
 
The Great Gabby 
  • Hoschek, a preseason All-CAA honorable mention, is having the best statistical season of her career in 2025.  
  • The junior is third on the Phoenix in points (13) and goals (4). The 13 points are a career best.  
  • In Elon's CAA opener at Hofstra, Hoschek scored the tying goal directly off a deep free kick with exactly one minute remaining to secure a result for the Phoenix. It was her third goal this season to come directly off a free kick.   
  • The midfielder delivered her second career brace on Sept. 10 against South Carolina State, as she scored two of Elon's first three goals in a 6-0 victory.  
  • On Aug. 28 at Queens, Hoschek connected on a free kick for her first goal of the campaign, ricocheting the ball off the left post and past the Royals' goalkeeper. 
  • In the second half versus the Royals, Hoschek delivered the secondary assist on Hellner's header goal. It was the junior's second time recording a goal and assist in the same contest, with the other coming at Wofford on Sept. 2, 2024.  
  • Hoschek has five assists this season, with two coming in Elon's victory against Drexel last week.   
  • Hoschek has started 12 of 15 games for Elon this season, logging 1,111 minutes. 
 
Shlee Scoring 
  • Brehio has heated up during conference play games, accounting for points in three of Elon's seven CAA matches.  
  • The midfielder netted the first goal of her senior campaign on Sept. 7 at George Mason, her first two points since tallying two assists versus VMI on Aug. 17.  
  • Brehio added an assist in Elon's next game against South Carolina State before tallying her second goal in the CAA opener at Hofstra. She then assisted on Murdock's goal at William & Mary.  
  • The senior tallied her second goal in conference play at Campbell. It was the 18th of her career as she leads all active Elon players in career goals.   
  • Brehio is fourth on the team with 10 points, eight of which have come in Elon's last nine contests. She has reached double-digit points in all four of her seasons with the Phoenix and is just two points shy of her career high (12), which she reached in both 2022 and 2024. 
 
Historic Shutout Streak 
  • Elon set a program record earlier this season with seven consecutive clean sheets, surpassing the previous record of six that was set in 1986, Elon's inaugural season.   
  • Elon went just over 716 minutes of game time without conceding a goal, a stretch that began in the second half at VCU on Aug. 14 and ended in the second half on Sept. 18 versus Hofstra. The Phoenix was just shy of 12 hours without allowing a goal before the Pride ended the streak.  
  • Bisgrove started six of the shutout efforts in goal for the Phoenix. She is the first Elon goalie in program history to record a shutout in six consecutive games.  
  • Anna Hamner and Naomi Person combined for Elon's seventh shutout against South Carolina State.  
  • Bisgrove was the first goalkeeper in the country to reach six shutouts this season. She is currently tied with Drexel's Sammy Widnick for the most in the conference.   
  • Bisgrove's six straight clean sheets were the most by a CAA women's soccer student-athlete since Hofstra's Krystal Robens posted seven in a row in 2007. 
  • With her six clean sheets this season, Bisgrove is up to 11.5 in her career, which is already the ninth most in program history through her 29 appearances.  
  • The Phoenix leads the CAA and ranks top 30 in the nation in goals against average (.667). Elon's .875 save percentage is also the best in the conference and No. 9 nationally.  
  • Elon currently holds a plus-21 goal differential, the best in the CAA.  
  • Hill has anchored Elon's backline this season, playing 1,315 of a possible 1,350 minutes. She has logged the full 90 minutes on 12 occasions this season.  
  • Pierce and Megan Dwyer have also been key contributors on Elon's backline this season. Pierce is second among Elon position players with 1,223 minutes played this season, with Dwyer having logged 1,021 minutes. Dwyer had a goal and two assists in Elon's two wins last week. 
 
Balanced Attack  
  • Through the first 15 games this season, Elon has had 12 different scorers for its 31 goals. 
  • Murdock and Gelhaus lead the Phoenix with six goals, Hoschek close behind with four. Brehio, Hellner and Jess Beck all have three goals each 
  • Three Elon players have converted their first career goals this seasonfreshmen Abby Brinker and Dumornay, along with junior Jenna Abousaab. 
  • Lauren McCauley, Talia Feigin and Dwyer are the other goal scorers this season for the Phoenix with one apiece.  
  • Additionally, 17 Elon players have recorded points on the campaign, with Jordan Green (2), Gia Milano (2), Hill (1), Maya Abousaab (1) and Lilly McFadden (1) all recording assists.  
 
New Look CAA Soccer  
  • Starting in 2025, the CAA will feature two divisions for women's soccer – a North and South Division.   
  • Elon is part of the South Division alongside Campbell, College of Charleston, Hampton, UNCW and William & Mary.   
  • The Phoenix will face all five South Division teams in the regular season along with four teams from the North Division.   
  • At the end of the regular season, the top three teams from each division will qualify for the CAA Championship. The top seed in each division will receive a bye to the semifinals while the Nos. 2 and 3 seeds in both the North and South will clash in the quarterfinals.   
 
Scouting Hampton 
  • The Pirates enter Sunday's contest with a 5-10-1 record this season. They are still seeking their first conference victory.  
  • Hampton lost 2-1 to Northeastern on Sunday after conceding the game winner in the 78th minute.   
  • The Pirates have scored 24 goals this season, tied for the sixth most in the conference. They are second in the CAA with 272 shot attempts.  
  • Nylah Jennings leads the Pirates with five goals and 12 points this season. She scored for Hampton against CAA South champion UNCW earlier this season.  
  • Caitlyn Peace, Jayda Sutton and Madisyn Strange are second on the team with three goals apiece.  
  • Keri Geter has played every possible minute this season (1,440) in Hampton's 16 matches. 
  • Avery John has started 15 of 16 matches in goal for Hampton. She has 69 saves on the season and a 1.88 goals against average  
  • Scott Vorwold is in his second season as the head coach of the Pirates.  
 
Scouting Charleston 
  • The Cougars enter Sunday's season finale with an 8-6-2 mark on the season. They are 4-3-1 in conference play.  
  • Charleston defeated Hofstra, 1-0, in its most recent outing on Sunday. Emma Wennar scored the lone goal of the contest in the 64th minute.  
  • The Cougars have scored 30 goals this season, the third most among CAA teams. They lead the conference with 289 shot attempts.  
  • Charleston's plus-13 goal differential is tied for the second best in the CAA so far this season.  
  • Bella Antonio leads the Cougars and ranks No. 9 in the CAA with 14 points on the season. Her four assists lead the team. 
  • Antonio, Wennar, Avery Nassetta and Maggie Heffernan all have five goals to lead the Cougars this season. Wennar is the only one of the four to attempt more than 11 shots (30).  
  • Nassetta, Wennar and Faith Slimmer are all tied for second on the Cougars with 11 points. Heffernan also has double-digit points (10) on the campaign. 
  • Ainsley Chunn has started all 16 matches in goal for the Cougars. She ranks third in the conference in goals against average (1.08).  
  • Christian Michner is in his 16th season as Charleston's head coach.
