SUNSET BEACH, NC – Sammy Sue Wilson turned in a three-over-par 75 as Elon golfed its way to fifth place in opening-round action of the 21-team Sea Trail Intercollegiate women's golf tournament Saturday on the 6,079-yard Willard Byrd Course.

Wilson (37-38) earned a sixth-place tie with Western Carolina's Rebecca Twiner (40-35) in the 108-player tournament entering Sunday's second/final round. Western Carolina's Brandy Andersen (36-35–71) garners sole possession of first place at the event's midway point.

Elon (317) trails Western Carolina (297), Longwood (311), North Carolina State (315) and Winthrop (316). Methodist (318), Charleston Southern (319), Radford (320), Gardner-Webb (321) and Jacksonville (324) make up the rest of the top 10 after Saturday's play.

Morgan Olds (Tied-15th, 42-36–78), Becky Poindexter (Tied-33rd, 43-38–81), Kristin Niland (Tied-54th, 44-39–83) and Alison Mangini (Tied-59th, 43-41–84) are all representing the Phoenix in the annual Elon-hosted event.
