Elon Sweeps UNCG, 3-0

GREENSBORO, N.C.– The Elon University volleyball team notched its 15th win of the season, breaking last year's win total, by defeating UNC Greensboro at Fleming Gymnasium on Friday night by a score of 30-22, 30-17, 30-15.  

The Phoenix (15-10, 7-3 SoCon) dominated play throughout the match. Elon broke a 9-9 tie in game one by rattling off 10 of the next 13 points to go ahead 19-12 and never looked back. Games two and three were more of the same for Elon as they enjoyed double digit leads late in each game to win its third straight league match.

Emily Lucci and Emily Hayes led the Elon offense. Lucci talied 14 kills and only two errors on 21 attempts for a .571 hitting percentage. Hayes notched 12 kills along with eight digs. Natalie Moore dished out an 45 assists, while Mary Kate Spear had a match-high 22 digs. The Phoenix hit .345 for the match as compared to the Spartans' .082 hitting percentage.

Hilary Overby led the Spartans with eight kills, while Rebekah Faulise came up with 21 digs to become just the second player at UNCG to record 500 digs in a single season. Faulise continues to lead the Southern Conference with 5.07 digs per-game. She has compiled 1,141 digs for her career, which is sixth all-time at UNCG. Adrian Hicks dished out 25 assists for the Spartans.

Elon heads to Wofford on Sunday for a 2:00 p.m. match. UNCG will travel to Elon on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. conference match at Alumni Gym.
