ELON, N.C. -- Elon University Athletics and women's basketball head coach Brenda Paul today announced the Phoenix' 2004-05 schedule. Paul's squad will appear in two tournaments and will host two non-conference tilts this season.
The Phoenix will open the year on Fri., Nov.19 at North Carolina. Games two and three will be played at the Miami Herald Thanksgiving Classic hosted by Florida International on Nov. 26-27 where Elon will play FIU in the opening game of the classic and either Wichita State or West Virginia.
Elon's second tournament of the season will be at Maryland for the Terrapin Classic on Dec. 29-30. The Phoenix will open tournament play with Marshall and will then take on either Maryland or Massachusetts.
In other non-league action, the Phoenix will host Greensboro College on Dec. 15 and Longwood on Jan. 26 for what will be the first-ever Education Day with the Phoenix.
Southern Conference play will begin on Nov. 30 at Appalachian State for Elon. The first home game for the Phoenix will come on Dec. 3 when conference foe East Tennessee State visits the Nest for a 7:00 p.m. match-up.
Of the 2004-05 schedule, Paul said, "As always we've got a challenging non-conference schedule before we get into Southern Conference play. We could play five games with teams who made the NCAA Tournament last year (North Carolina, West Virginia, Maryland and Chattanooga). With a mixture of returning players and our eight freshmen, we think that we will be prepared for league competition. Having a 20-game conference schedule is tough; it gives us limited time to prepare in non-conference games."
