SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Elon University's baseball team placed three players on the 2006 Preseason All-Southern Conference Team which was voted on by the league's coaches and announced on Tuesday afternoon. Seniors Grant Rembert, Drew Davis and Chris Price each claimed a spot on one of the two teams.
Rembert, from Hickory, N.C., made was named one of the three first team outfielders. In 2005, Rembert appeared in only nine games due to injury, but batted .429 with 13 runs scored, three homers, 11 RBI and seven steals. He was also named National Player of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association once.
Davis, who hails from Salisbury, N.C., claimed the second team catcher position following a year in which he batted .327 with 44 runs scored, 14 doubles and 44 RBI. In 2005, Davis gunned down 35.3 percent of potential base stealers. At the plate last year, he fanned only 11 times in 199 at bats.
Price, a native of Asheville, N.C., earned one of the three second team outfield positions. As a junior, Price hit a team-best .379 with 54 uns scored, four homers, 53 RBI and 52 walks. Price was a Second Team All-Southern Conference selection following the 2005 season.
Elon begins its season on Friday, Feb. 10 at South Carolina at 3:00 p.m.
