Yellock Named Elon Defensive Line Coach

ELON, N.C. – Elon University head football coach Pete Lembo announced today the hiring of East Carolina University defensive graduate assistant Marc Yellock as the Phoenix defensive line coach.

Yellock, 27, joins Lembo’s first Phoenix staff. Lembo was introduced as the 19th head coach in the 85-year history of Elon's football program on Dec. 19 after coaching at Lehigh University for eight years, including the last five as the head coach.

“Marc is a great addition to our new coaching staff,” said Lembo. “He is bright, articulate and was an outstanding student-athlete at the I-A level. As a native of North Carolina, I expect him to be a valuable asset to our recruiting efforts in the state.”

Lembo announced the hiring of defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Jay Bateman, defensive ends coach Shane Burnham, recruiting coordinator/running backs coach Louis Clyburn, offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Warren Ruggiero, offensive line coach Rich Skrosky and special teams coordinator/defensive backs coach Tony Trisciani on Dec. 30.

Yellock worked the past two seasons (2004 and 2005) as East Carolina’s staff assistant coach, working primarily with the Pirates’ defensive line. He served ECU as a video intern for the 2003 campaign after coaching the linebackers at J.H. Rose High School, also located in Greenville, N.C., for the 2002 season.

A four-year letterman as a linebacker at ECU, Yellock played for the Pirates’ 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2000 teams after red-shirting in 1996. He played in 26 games, making 18 starts during his career with the Pirates under coach Steve Logan. Prior to that, he was a four-year letterman as a defensive end for Person County High School in Roxboro, N.C., playing for the 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1995 squads.

The Roxboro, N.C. native earned a bachelor of arts degree in chemistry from East Carolina in 2000. Yellock worked two years (May 2001-Aug. 2003) at Metric, Inc. of Greenville, serving as a lab analyst for one year (May 2001-June 2002) and as an analytical chemist for one year (June 2002-Aug. 2003). He is married to the former LaTonya McIver of Leasburg, N.C.
