Tumbleston sports a cumulative 4.0 grade-point average as a double major in physics and science education. During his career, the four-year letterman has earned team captain status, team MVP recognition, the 2006 Southern Conference/Dave Hart Postgraduate Scholarship, an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, Southern Conference Runner of the Week honors, TIAA-CREF Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week accolades, his team’s sportsmanship award, the A.L. Hook Scholar-Athlete Award and the 2005 Southeastern Collegiate Invitational title.
Tumbleston holds five of Elon’s all-time top 10 cross country times, including one tied for the school record. He has competed in 29 of his team’s 30 races over the past four years, scoring in 28 of those meets while emerging as the top Phoenix finisher on 14 occasions. Tumbleston has been tabbed to the Elon President’s List seven times and has been inducted into five national college honor societies. He plans on attending graduate school in the fall of 2006, pursuing his master’s degree and Ph.D. in physics on his way to becoming a university professor.
The presentation ceremony is scheduled for 6:50 p.m. Friday. Third-place Elon (33-12 overall, 14-4 SoCon) faces fourth-place Georgia Southern (24-19 overall, 10-5 SoCon) on the baseball field at 7 p.m.
