In games one and two, Chattanooga took early leads and led throughout most of the game tallying decisive wins. The team had 18 and 16 kills in the first two games and held its hitting errors to six total.
In the third game, Elon took an early advantage and extended the lead to nine at 18-9. But the Lady Mocs used a 13-4 run to knot the game 22-22 on a service ace from Kelsey Amundson. After a 23-23 tie, Chattanooga took the advantage and went up by three at 27-24. Elon got within one at 28-29, but the Lady Mocs closed the game 30-28 on a kill from Leslee Ball.
Elon (5-8, 3-1) was led by Britnay Westphal with 13 kills while Brooke Pickard recorded 14 digs and Juliena Gigon added 13. Natalie Moore posted 33 assists for Elon.
Amundson led Chattanooga (5-9, 3-1) with 14 kills while Ball added 10. Lara Newberry posted a match-high 23 digs and Jamie Engel added 10. Bethany Hernodon recorded 39 assists.
Elon hosts Appalachian State on Friday, Sept. 29 in a 7 p.m. match while Chattanooga travel to Georgia Southern on Sept. 30.
