ELON, N.C. – Elon University men’s tennis coach Michael Leonard, two-time defending Southern Conference Coach of the Year, today announced that Carlin Murray (Philadelphia, Pa./The Haverford School) has signed a national letter-of-intent to join the two-time defending Southern Conference champion Phoenix for the 2008-09 campaign.
“I am excited about the addition of Carlin Murray to our tennis program,” Leonard said. “Murray brings a lot of athleticism to the court. He is extremely competitive and is passionate about taking his tennis game to the next level. I am looking forward to watching his development here at Elon.”
Currently ranked third in Pennsylvania, 12th in the Middle Atlantic Region and 68th in the country by The Tennis Recruiting Network, Murray has been ranked as high as fourth regionally and 54th nationally. Earlier this year, he achieved a runner-up finish at the National Open Boys’ 18 Northeast Region Championship.
The three-time All-DELCO selection and team MVP consistently represented Haverford as its No. 1 singles player and team co-captain. Last spring, Murray claimed the individual championship of the Inter-Ac Tournament while leading coach Ben Rein’s squad to the team title. He also finished in second place at the 2006 Dallastown Invitational.
He is the son of Curtis and Annette Murray.
