Phoenix Set For CAA Tournament

Elon Seeks Fifth Straight Final Appearance

ELON – The No. 2 seed Elon men's tennis team (6-12) begins its bid for a fifth straight CAA final appearance Saturday in the semifinals of the CAA Tournament. Elon will play in Saturday's second semifinal at noon at the Mackesy Tennis Center in Williamsbrug, Virginia.
 
The Phoenix will face the winner of Friday's quarterfinal match between No. 3 Campbell and No. 6 William & Mary.

The Matchup 
  • Elon improved its all-time record against Campbell to 15-2 with a 6-1 victory over the Camels on April 1 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
  • The Phoenix has won six straight matches against Campbell, which includes a 4-3 decision in the quarterfinals of the 2024 CAA Tournament at William & Mary. Oskar Antinheimo clinched the win for Elon with a decisive final-set tiebreak victory in a match that ended after midnight.
  • Three of the last five meetings between Elon and Campbell have been decided by a 4-3 score.
  • Elon also defeated William & Mary 6-1 on March 20 to level the all-time series at 9-9.
  • The Phoenix has won three straight matches against the Tribe.
  • Elon and William & Mary have met five times in the CAA Tournament, with the Tribe winning three of those matchups. The Phoenix defeated William & Mary in the 2019 semifinals on the way to its first CAA Tournament title.
 
 
About the Phoenix 
  • Elon went 6-12 in the regular season, going 2-0 against CAA opponents with wins over Campbell and William & Mary.  
  • Veljko Krstic has been ranked in the ITA singles standings for most of the spring and has won five of his last seven matches at the No. 1, highlighted by a victory over No. 56 Old Dominion on March 29. He earned All-CAA honors in both singles and doubles a season ago. 
  • Rafael Ymer and Jack Curtis also picked up All-CAA recognition in both singles and doubles last season. Ymer leads the Phoenix with 23 total victories across doubles and singles this season, while Curtis has six wins in doubles and five in singles. 
  • Oskar Antinheimo rounded out Elon's postseason honorees in 2025, landing on the All-CAA Second Team in doubles. Antinheimo has won five of his last eight singles matches and is 4-2 playing doubles with Ymer this spring. 
  • Elon returns three more players from last season – Luke Forester, Charles Pilet and Alonso Roca. Pilet delivered 10 victories as a freshman across singles and doubles, while Roca notched a pair of singles wins in the spring.  
  • The Phoenix welcomes two newcomers in 2025-26. Nick Fisk joins Elon as a freshman, while sophomore Nikola Parichkov comes to Elon after being a part of Wake Forest's national championship team last spring.  
  • Elon has been to four straight CAA title matches, losing all four to UNCW.   
  • Head coach Maciek Sykut is in his second year at the helm of the Phoenix.  

 
Last Time Out 
  • Elon closed its regular season April 13 with a 5-2 victory over St. John's in a neutral-site contest in Camden, South Carolina.
  • St. John's won a tightly contested doubles point that came down to the final match on Court 3.
  • The Red Storm won on Court 1, but Jack Curtis and Rafael Ymer responded with a 6-4 victory at the No. 2 spot over Mats Pottbecker and Sergej Zivkovic. It was their first appearance together since March 8 against South Carolina State. The duo has now won five matches together this spring, tied for most on the Phoenix.
  • The match on Court 3 went to a tiebreak, with Semen Agynskyy and Adam Groves saving match points to beat Oskar Antinheimo and Nick Fisk in a tiebreak. Antinheimo and Fisk were a first-time pairing for Elon.
  • The Phoenix took a 2-1 lead after singles victories from Veljko Krstic and Nikola Parichkov. Krstic defeated David Petrovic 6-1, 6-2 on Court 1 for his seventh victory of the spring. It was his fifth win in the last seven matches, with the two defeats coming in match tiebreaks.
  • Parichkov took down Pottbecker 6-4, 6-2 on Court 5 for his third straight singles victory, his longest winning streak of the spring. He improved to 3-1 playing the No. 5 spot since debuting there on March 29 against Old Dominion.
  • Antinheimo extended Elon's lead with a 6-2, 6-3 win against Groves at the No. 4 spot. It was the senior's sixth victory of the campaign and the second straight to come in two sets.
  • Pilet came from a set down to deliver the winning point for the Phoenix, defeating Danilo Raicevic 5-7, 6-2, 6-1. It was the sophomore's fifth win of the season and his second in the last three matches. He has now won two matches in full third sets this spring.
  • Ymer rounded out Elon's comeback win with a three-set victory of his own on Court 2. The sophomore defeated Armando Sotelo 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 for his team-best 14th victory of the season and seventh in a row. Ymer has won three straight matches in either a full third set or a match tiebreak and improved to 5-1 in final sets on the campaign.
  • The win was Elon's first this season and first since March 30, 2025, after losing the doubles point.
  • This was the second time in the last three matches Elon has won five singles points.  
 
 
Rafa Rising   
  • Ymer leads the Phoenix with 14 singles victories this spring, with 13 coming at the No. 2 position and one from the No. 1 spot. 
  • He owns a 14-3 overall record and enters the tournament riding a seven-match winning streak.  
  • The sophomore earned a ranked singles win on Jan. 21, defeating No. 73 Alexander Frusina of No. 11 Texas A&M. He later added victories at home against Charlotte, on the road at No. 23 NC State and at home over No. 56 Old Dominion.    
  • Six of Ymer's last eight singles wins have come in either a third set or match tiebreak. His five final-set wins lead the Phoenix, as he is 5-1 in decisive frames on the season. He has also won both his match tiebreaks, including the most recent against Campbell on April 1.  
  • The sophomore went 2-0 against CAA opponents this season, including a win over the Tribe in Williamsburg in March.
  • Ymer captured his second career CAA Player of the Week honor on Jan. 27, highlighted in the season's first CAA weekly men's tennis awards.   
  • Primarily competing at the No. 2 spot, he holds a 9-4 record in doubles. He is 5-2 playing with Curtis and 4-2 playing with Antinheimo. 
  • Ymer's 23 victories across doubles and singles are the most on the Phoenix. He holds a combined record of 23-7. 
 

Serbian Surge    
  • Krstic made a historic run at ITA Carolina Regionals in October, placing third in the main singles draw.      
  • The senior advanced to the semifinals in the event, becoming the first Elon player to make the final four in singles at Regionals since Cameron Silverman in 2013.     
  • Krstic delivered four victories to reach the semifinals, defeating players from North Carolina, Charlotte, Clemson and South Carolina along the way.     
  • In his semifinal against Wake Forest's Luca Pow, Krstic won the second set, 6-2, after dropping the opener in a tiebreak. He pushed Pow to the end, ultimately falling 4-6 in the deciding frame.     
  • Krstic finished the fall with a team-best 10 singles victories. He also had six doubles wins.     
  • Krstic rose to No. 60 in the first ITA singles rankings of the spring, which were released on Feb. 4. He is the second Elon individual to reach the top 60 in the rankings. The senior has appeared in six of the eight editions of the rankings since debuting on Nov. 25. 
  • Krstic is up to 45 career dual singles victories, the most among current Elon players. An All-CAA First Team honoree in singles a season ago, Krstic posted double-digit singles wins in each of his first three seasons with the Phoenix.     
  • With his March 20 win over William & Mary, Krstic snapped a six-match singles skid and has since surged into form, winning five of his last seven appearances. The run was highlighted by a victory over No. 56 Old Dominion on March 29.  
  • For the third time in his Elon career, Krstic was tabbed CAA Player of the Week on March 31. It was his third CAA weekly honor of the season after winning Doubles Team of the Week twice with Parichkov.  

 
Big O 
  • Antinheimo has won five of his last eight singles matches heading into the tournament, with two of the three losses coming in third sets. 
  • The senior has picked up singles wins against Coastal Carolina, William & Mary, VCU, Campbell and St. John's in that span. He is 2-0 against CAA opponents this spring.  
  • Antinheimo is one of three Phoenix players to play four different singles spots this spring. He has made at least one appearance at Nos. 3-6 singles. 
  • Antinheimo has also won five of his last eight matches in doubles, four of which came alongside Ymer. Antinheimo and Ymer were also at match point at No. 3 doubles against No. 34 Clemson on March 15 when their match was halted. 
  • Antinheimo is up to 78 career dual victories (41 in singles, 37 in doubles) in his fourth season with the Phoenix. He is Elon's active leader in total career wins. 
 

Curtis Cruising 
  • Curtis has 11 total wins this season, with five in singles and six in doubles. 
  • The junior has won four of his last seven completed singles matches, with all the wins coming in straight sets. His only losses in that stretch were in three sets against VCU and St. John's, and to No. 69 Liberty. 
  • Curtis lost just three games in his singles win against Campbell on April 1, his most efficient singles performance of the spring. He is 2-0 against CAA opponents this spring as he also won at William & Mary.  
  • Curtis debuted with Krstic in doubles on March 29 against Old Dominion. The duo won their first match together April 1 against Campbell. 
  • The junior has also picked up five victories alongside Ymer this spring and is 6-4 overall in doubles. The duo reunited Monday in a win over St. John's.
 

Four In A Row    
  • Elon has advanced to four straight CAA championship matches, a streak that began in 2022.     
  • Last season, the Phoenix hosted the event at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center and defeated Monmouth in the semifinals to reach the final against top-seeded UNCW.     
  • The Phoenix and Seahawks have met in each of the last four conference title matches, with UNCW winning all four.     
  • In the last four CAA Tournaments, Elon is 7-0 in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds. The Phoenix's last loss prior to the championship match came in 2021.     

 
Scouting Campbell  
  • Campbell enters the tournament with a 9-11 record and is on a two-match winning streak since losing to Elon on April 1. Both of those wins came against CAA opponents, one of which made the conference tournament in No. 4 seed Charleston. 
  • The Camels are 2-0 in neutral matches and 3-6 in road matches this season, with losses to ranked opponents NC State, North Carolina and Duke. Their last road win came March 13 at NC Wesleyan. 
  • Thomas Drapeau leads the team with 11 singles wins this spring, primarily playing at the No. 1 position, and includes a ranked win at No. 9 NC State. Drapeau also took home CAA Player of the Week on April 14.
  • Antinheimo defeated Drapeau at the Elon Invitational this fall, 6-3, 6-3. Krstic defeated him last season, 7-6 (0), 6-1. 
  • Aleksandar Hudjec has 10 singles wins on the season, competing mainly at the No. 3 spot. 
  • Curtis defeated Hudjec in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, on April 1.
  • Alex Fragasso has eight singles victories this season, primarily coming from the No. 2 position. Ymer took down Fragasso in a match tiebreak on April 1.
  • Drapeau and Hudjec are 6-2 at No. 2 doubles for the Camels, while Campbell has just three wins at No. 1 doubles this season. 
  • Antinheimo and Ymer defeated Drapeau and Hudjec on April 1, 7-6 (2).
  • Campbell is led by head coach David Johnson, who is in his 28th season with the program. Johnson recently reached 600 career wins as a head coach.
 

Scouting William & Mary  
  • William & Mary enters the tournament at 9-12 overall and 8-3 at home this spring.
  • Elon is one of the three teams to win at William & Mary this season, securing a 6-1 victory on March 20. Old Dominion and No. 5 seed Drexel also won at the Tribe this season.
  • Oliver Hague holds an impressive 14-4 dual singles record, mainly at the No. 2 position. 
  • Ymer has defeated Hague in each of the last two seasons, both in three-set battles on Court 2.
  • Gur Trakhtenberg has the second most singles wins for the Tribe, boasting a 10-7 record competing at the No. 1 spot.
  • Krstic has taken down Trakhtenberg in each of the last two seasons, both on Court 1 in straight sets.
  • In doubles, Hague and Trakhtenberg lead the team with 12 dual wins together at the No. 1 position. The duo earned their fourth CAA Doubles Team of the Week honor of the season on April 14. Krstic and Parichkov defeated Hague and Trakhtenberg at No. 1 doubles on March 20, 7-6 (6), to clinch the doubles point for the Phoenix.
  • The Tribe is led by head coach Jeff Kader, who is in his 11th season with the program.
