Bruell followed up her 39 on the first nine holes with a 41 on the last nine while Johnson shot 38 on the front nine and carded a 42 on the back nine. Playing in the Phoenix's spring season opener, Bruell and Johnson share 17th place in the 64-player field of the three-day, three-round tournament.

Danielle Mills (T-27th/39-42–81) and Samantha Widmer (T-39th/39-44–83) also scored for Elon (324), which sits in eighth place out of 12 squads entering Monday's play. Augusta Sate (327), Furman (329), Coastal Carolina (331) and Xavier (332) all trail the Phoenix.

Louisville (308) leads the pack, followed by San Jose State (312), East Carolina (314), San Francisco (316), host Miami (317), South Florida (318) and Georgia State (323).
