SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Elon senior pitcher Zach Booker (Elon, N.C.) was chosen as the Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday, April 9 by the league office.  Booker becomes the third Phoenix hurler to be awarded this accolade this season, joining Steven Hensley and Will Romanowicz.

 

Booker went 1-0 with one save this week and posted a 0.96 ERA in three appearances.  After throwing 7.0 shutout innings to earn a victory over Wake Forest on Tuesday, Booker blanked SoCon rival Georgia Southern in the 10th inning to secure a 5-4 Phoenix win on Saturday.  On Sunday, he allowed one run in 1.1 innings of work at Georgia Southern.  The UNC Wilmington transfer struck out six in 9.1 innings and walked just four.

 

Against Wake Forest, Booker also went 2-for-3 with two doubles, a run scored and two RBI at the plate.

 

On the year, Booker is 3-2 with one save and a 5.00 ERA. He has thrown 45.0 innings and struck out 23.
