Garren Named Academic All-District

ELON, N.C. – Elon University junior cross country runner Eric Garren (Bristol, Conn./Bristol Eastern) has been tabbed to the 2006-07 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III Men's Track and Field/Cross Country First Team (University Division) by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

The top Phoenix finisher at the Southern Conference and NCAA Southeast Regional Championships last fall, Garren earned 2006 team MVP honors. He also finished 8th at the University of South Carolina’s 2006 Gamecock Invitational and 13th at the 2006 Old North State Championship.

During Elon’s eight years as an official NCAA Division I member, Phoenix student-athletes have commandeered Academic All-District distinction on 31 occasions and CoSIDA Academic All-America accolades 12 times.

A double major in business administration and finance, Garren has fashioned a 3.96 cumulative grade-point average at Elon. The six-time President's List and Athletics Director's Honor Roll student has also appeared on the TIAA-CREF Academic All-Southern Conference team the past two years.

Garren was honored as the male A.L. Hook Scholar-Athlete at the 2007 Elon Athletics Awards Banquet in May, recognizing the Phoenix student-athlete who possesses the highest cumulative GPA.
