Men's Cross Country Takes First at Hagan Stone Classic

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Elon men’s cross country team finished first out of eight Division I teams at the Hagan Stone Classic Saturday morning.  The team’s beat out North Carolina, who took second at the meet, and SoCon foe UNC Greensboro.  The first place finish is the highest the team has finished this season.

Leading the way for Elon was Rick Meyers who took third with a time of 26:03.5.  William Schefer, Justin Gianni, and Matt Richardson also turned in top-10 performances.  Schefer finished eighth with a time of 26:28.3, while Gianni and Richardson finished ninth and 10th with times of 26:31.3 and 26:37.2, respectively.

Finishing 13th was Eric Lewandowski with a time of 26:43.8,

Clay Sankey noticed a 27th place finish with a time of 27:31.7.  Jason MacCollum finished 34th with a time of 27:51.9, barely beating out Conor O’Brien who finished 35th with a time of27:52.4.

Also running for the Phoenix was Andrew Garrison (28:28.1), Taylor Zorski (28:32.7), David Wells (28:37.0), Andrew Hawkey (28:53.7), Will Bertram (29:46.9), Glen Cornell (29:47.4) and Justin Veldhuis (29:55.8).

The men will be back in action October 17 when they travel to Boone, N.C. for the Blue Ridge Open, hosted by Appalachian State.
