Bumbrey Earns SoCon Player of the Week Honors

Spartanburg, S.C. – Guard Tierra Bumbrey has been named the Southern Conference women’s basketball co-player of the week for February 12 after a record-setting performance in the 102-101 loss to Western Carolina.

Bumbrey filled up the stat sheet against the Lady Catamounts with 36 points on 8-of-14 shooting from behind the three-point arc to go along with six assists, five rebounds and three steals. Her eight three pointers were the most by any SoCon player in eight seasons.  The Stafford, Va., native also showed a flair for the dramatic by hitting the game-tying three-pointer with two seconds remaining in regulation. Bumbrey led all players with 57 minutes played in a game that equaled the longest in Southern Conference history.

This is Bumbrey’s first player of the week award and the first for an Elon player in the past two seasons.

Bumbrey shares the honor with Western Carolina's Ashley Pellom who led the Lady Catamounts with 19 points in the win.

The Phoenix return to action Saturday, Feb. 16 when they travel to Boone, N.C. for a 2 p.m. showdown against Appalachian State.
