Hensley Earns Louisville Slugger TPX All-American Honors

ELON, N.C. – All-SoCon and Pitcher of the Year Steven Hensley has been named to the Louisville Slugger TPX All-America Third team it was announced today.  Hensley, who was named a freshman All-American in 2006, is the first Phoenix player to receive All-America honors at the NCAA Division I level.

Hensley, a junior from Asheville, N.C., is 10-1 with a 3.34 ERA in 15 appearances this season.  Overall, he struck out a league-best 97 hitters in 86.1 innings while holding opponents to a .219 batting average. In SoCon contests, Hensley posted a 6-1 ledger and a 3.49 ERA.  In nine starts he threw one complete game, struck out 66 and walked only 25 in 56.2 innings of work.  He also is Elon’s all-time strikeouts leader, registering 292 during his career.

Hensley helped Elon (43-16, 19-8 SoCon) to its second SoCon regular season title in three years and its first Southern Conference Tournament title.  With the tournament win, Elon captured the conference’s automatic bid to the 2008 NCAA Baseball Tournament as the third-seed in the Cary, N.C. regional.  The Phoenix will face the second-seeded UNC Wilmington Friday at 2 p.m. at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.
