ELON, N.C. -- Following a 2-1 loss at #15 North Carolina on Wednesday night, the Elon Phoenix men's soccer program heads back to the pitch for a 7 p.m. contest at Charlotte on Saturday night. This will be the sixth all-time meeting between the two programs, with the 49ers holding a slim 3-2 edge after their win over the Phoenix last season.
Elon (2-5-1) has seen all of its defeats end as one-goal decisions, including the 2-1 score on Wednesday night. The Phoenix has only allowed two goals more than it has scored (10-8), but has come up just short all season long.
Justin Wyatt's three goals and 11 points lead the Phoenix, while teammate
Erfan Imeni has netted two scores this season.
In seven games in goal,
Kyle Boerner has made 18 saves and a 1.64 GAA.
Charlotte enters the match with a 6-1-0 mark and are ranked 27th in the College Soccer News Top 30 this week. The 49ers defense led by junior goalkeeper David Martin have not allowed a goal in their last 342 minutes of play.
