Elon's McFadden in the Hunt for Palmetto Title

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- The East Tennessee State women's golf team fired a tournament-low 289 in the first round and a 294 in the second to lead with a total of 583 after 36 holes of the 2009 Palmetto Intercollegiate being held Oct. 26-27 at the Oak Point Golf Course in Kiawah Island, S.C. Maryland sits just three strokes back in second with a 586 (296-290). The Elon Phoenix sits 12th in the 18-team field after a two round total of 610 (310-300).
 
Campbell is third with a 591 (298-293) and in fourth is Kennesaw State with a 594 (297-297). Rounding out the top five are East Carolina (295-303) and Georgia State (299-299) who both have a 598 heading into the third and final round which starts at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
 
Leading for individual medalist honors is Maryland's Jessie Hollandsworth, who shot a 69 and a 68 in two rounds to total a 137 and lead ETSU's Sinead O'Sullivan by six strokes.
 
Elon's Tara McFadden is tied for sixth after shooting a 145 (75-70) and is just two strokes out of second place.  McFadden posted 26 pars and shot -1 on the par-three holes.
 
Kelsey Johnson rebounded from a first-round 80 with a second round of 75 for a two-round score of 155 to sit tied for 50th.  Lauren Lebak (79-77) and Shannon Prunty (76-80) are tied for 55th with a score of 156.  Meghan Green rounded out Elon's five players with a 159 (81-78) to sit in a tie for 71st.
