COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS - The 36th-ranked duo of
Damon Gooch and
Philip Nemec fell to the No. 14 doubles pair of Justin Kronauge and Steven Moneke of Ohio State Thursday evening 2-0 (4-6, 5-7) in the Field of 32 round of the NCAA Doubles Championship in College Station, Texas.
"This has been a great experience for Damon and Philip and one that I am glad that they were able to have," head coach Michael Leonard said. "It was good to see them able to compete with some of the best players in the nation and really hold their own in the match."
The Phoenix duo led 3-0 early in the first set before the Buckeye pair rallied back for the win. Elon got down 3-1 in set number two before nearly forcing a tie-break.
The team was the only Southern Conference representatives in the NCAA Doubles Championship and the first Elon pair to reach the tournament. Gooch and Nemec finish the spring season with a record of 22-6.
