DURHAM, N.C. – Sophomore Traci Stewart was named the MVP of the Hilton RTP/NCCU Tournament, marking the second consecutive year that an Elon player was named the tournament’s MVP after Caroline Lemke took home the title in 2008. Stewart and junior Sarah Schermerhorn earned all-tournament honors as well after helping the Phoenix to a 4-0 record over the weekend. Stewart was recognized on the all-tournament squad for the second straight year.
Stewart finished with a team-high 36 kills for an attack percentage of .347 and an average of 2.77 kills per set over four matches. She tallied five service aces, one solo block and nine block assists. Stewart led the team in kills against S.C. State with 12 and UNC Wilmington with eight. Stewart also finished with seven assists and 16 digs.
Schermerhorn was second on the team in kills with 32 and had an attack percentage of .369. She led the team in kills against UNC Asheville and N.C. Central with 14 and nine, respectively. Though no tournament champion was named, the Phoenix was the only team to finish with a perfect record with victories over S.C. State, UNC Wilmington, UNC Asheville and N.C. Central.
