ELON, N.C. – The Elon University softball team was honored during halftime of last Saturday’s football game versus Samford at Rhodes Stadium, as the team received its 2010 Southern Conference Championship rings.

“It was obviously very special for us to finally see the rings after the anticipation of not knowing what they were going to look like,” said Elon senior infielder Caitlin McGowan. “Last year was very special for us and it took a lot of hard work, so it is great to have something to remember it by.”

Last season, the second-seeded Phoenix topped UNC Greensboro, 6-3, in the SoCon Tournament title game to claim the school’s first-ever SoCon softball championship.

The Phoenix finished the season with a program-record 38 victories en route to its first-ever NCAA Softball Championship appearance.
