ELON, N.C. -- Elon will play its last game before breaking for final exams when the Phoenix plays host to the East Carolina Pirates at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night.  The Phoenix (34-18) has won four straight games while East Carolina (27-21) has dropped its last four outings.  The game will be available on WSOE 89.3 FM and through Phoenix All Access.

 

Elon is 30-33-1 all-time against East Carolina in a series which dates back to 1940.  The Phoenix and Pirates played three times last year.  ECU won both of the meetings in Greenville before Elon claimed a 10-8 decision from Latham Park in the finale.  ECU picked up an 8-0 victory in Greenville earlier this season.  The teams first met in 1940 with Elon taking a 7-1 victory.

• This year, Elon pitchers have thrown 7,908 pitches.  Of those, 4,834 have been strikes.  That amounts to 61.1 percent of the pitches being thrown for strikes.  

 

• Elon has scored 431 runs this season.  The Phoenix has scored 170 of its runs from the seventh inning on.  That amounts to 39.4 percent of its runs being scored in the late innings. 

 

• In Sunday's 13-3 win over Appalachian State, senior catcher Mike Melillo moved into a tie atop Elon's career home run chart when he belted the 37th dinger of his career.  Melillo is tied with Scott Brendle who hit 37 between 1996-99.

 

• Also on Sunday, junior righty Ken Ferrer claimed career victory number 21.  The win moved Ferrer into a tie for 10th in program history with Gary Henson (1957-60).

 

• Over the weekend, junior Neal Pritchard was named one of 25 quarterfinalists for the 2010 Brooks Wallace Award which is presented annually to the nation's top shortstop.  Pritchard was the only SoCon player on the list.
