SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- After finishing the regular season with a 19-11 Southern Conference mark (and at 36-20 overall), the Elon Phoenix baseball team finished in a third-place tie with the Georgia Southern Eagles in the standings, but will be seeded fourth in the upcoming Southern Conference Baseball Tournament. Elon will take on fifth-seeded Samford at 9 p.m. on Wednesday night from Riley Park in Charleston, S.C.
The Citadel won the regular-season title with a league ledger of 24-6 to earn the top seed. The Bulldogs will face eighth-seeded Furman at 5 p.m.
Game one of the tournament will feature second-seeded College of Charleston and seventh-seeded Appalachian State at 9 a.m. Third-seeded Georgia Southern will take on sixth-seeded Western Carolina at approximately 1 p.m.
The top eight teams in the final Southern Conference standings qualified for the tournament, which features two four-team double-elimination brackets producing a single-elimination championship game at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 30. The tournament winner earns the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Baseball Championships.
