ELON, N.C. -- The Elon Phoenix football team ran its streak of being ranked by The Sports Network to 38 consecutive weeks by checking in with a national ranking of 21st in this week's poll.  The Phoenix was also slotted at No. 21 by the FCS coaches this week.

The top four in The Sports Network rankings remained unchanged this week as Villanova (3-1), Appalachian State (4-0), James Madison (3-0) and Jacksonville State (4-0) held those spots, respectively.  Delaware (4-0) moved up two places to No. 5 this week.

The rest of the top 10 consists of Stephen F. Austin (3-1), William & Mary (3-1), Massachusetts (3-1), South Carolina State (2-1) and Montana State (3-1).

Including Appalachian State, four of Elon's 2010 opponents are ranked by The Sports Network this week – No. 11 Richmond (1-2), No. 18 Furman (2-1) and No. 19 Georgia Southern (3-1) are the others.

The FCS Coaches poll also kept the same top four this week.  In order, they are Appalachian State, Villanova, James Madison and Jacksonville State.  Delaware again comes in at No. 5.  Stephen F. Austin, William & Mary, Massachusetts, South Carolina State and Montana State complete the top 10.

The same four Phoenix foes appear in this poll as well, with Richmond at No. 12, Georgia Southern at No. 16 and Furman in a tie at No. 23.

This weekend Elon will play host to Samford in a Southern Conference showdown.  Kickoff is slated for 1:30 p.m.  Prior to the start of the contest, Elon will retire the No. 19 jersey of former standout wide receiver Terrell Hudgins who set 19 NCAA, SoCon or Elon records in his time with the Phoenix.
