CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Elon’s
Cameron Silverman and
Eric Turner continued their strong fall doubles play this past weekend, advancing to the semifinals of the 2011 ITA Carolinas Regional event held on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The duo is now 9-1 during the fall season, having won two doubles titles this fall.
The Phoenix pair opened competition with an 8-4 defeat of Campbell’s David Clavera and Fernando Guillen in the round of 32. Silverman and Turner advanced to the quarterfinals after their opponent was forced to withdraw due to injury. In the quarterfinal match, the tandem was down two match points but battled out a 9-8 (8) victory over Appalachian State’s Alain Humblet and Philip Kloc and became the first Phoenix doubles team to advance all the way to the semifinals in the ITA Regional. In a tight semifinal match, Silverman and Turner suffered an 8-6 defeat to the second-seeded team in the tournament, Brennan Boyajian and Joey Burkhardt of North Carolina.
In singles action, Andrew Pecht and
Carlos Arboleda had the strongest showing, each posting a 2-1 record in the event.
This was Elon’s final competition of the fall season.
