TOWSON, Md. – Elon junior
Drew Spradlin was selected to the Capital One Academic All-America Men’s Basketball third team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Spradlin was the lone Southern Conference player and one of only four juniors among the 15 recipients to earn the recognition. The guard is the first Elon player to achieve Academic All-America status since Chris Chalko was honored in 2007.
Spradlin is among the team leaders in scoring this season with 13.9 points per game and also pulls down 4.4 rebounds per game from his guard position. The Wheelersburg, Ohio native has dumped in nearly 16 points per game against league opponents, which ranks ninth in the SoCon. He had a stretch of 12 straight games in double figures during the course of the season. Spradlin has knocked down 49 three-pointers this season and ranks sixth all-time at Elon with 136 career triples. He is rapidly approaching the 1,000-point plateau with 929 career points.
The political science major holds a 3.69 GPA and was named to the academic all-district first team earlier this month. Spradlin was also recognized as the SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week for January 12 after scoring in double figures in all three games the previous week and averaging 18.7 ppg.
Spradlin and Elon will be back in action at Davidson on Thursday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m.
