ELON, N.C. – Elon University men's basketball and head coach
Billy Taylor announced that
Sean Halloran has been promoted to director of operations/assistant coach on the Phoenix's staff on Friday, July 11.
"I'm excited to announce this well-deserved promotion for Sean," said Taylor. "His understanding of our culture from both a player's and coach's perspective is a huge asset for our program. He has performed above expectations in the operations role and has certainly earned the additional responsibilities that come with being an assistant coach. While he will still oversee a majority of the operations, his expanded role will include on-floor coaching, player development, scouting and recruiting. I am grateful for the value Sean brings, and I look forward to seeing him continue to grow as a young coach."
Halloran begins his third season on Taylor's staff after serving as the Phoenix's director of basketball operations for his first two seasons. Prior to that role, Halloran was a member of the Phoenix men's basketball team in Taylor's first season in 2022-23. In his lone season with the Phoenix as a fifth-year graduate student, he led the maroon and gold in scoring at 13 points per game while also dishing out a team-high 127 assists. The Orlando, Fla., native also knocked down nearly 92 percent of his free throws.
Halloran also tied a couple of Elon Division I school records for the program. He had 56 steals on the season, tying Scottie Rice's program mark that was originally set during the 2002-03 campaign. Halloran also dished out 11 assists versus Johnson and Wales, matching the Phoenix's single-game best at the DI level.
Prior to Elon, Halloran was a four-year standout at Belmont Abbey, where he finished as the all-time leader in assists with 502 and helped lead the Crusaders to back-to-back Conference Carolinas Tournament Championships and three straight NCAA tournament appearances. A two-time honoree on the Conference Carolinas Second Team, he rounded out his senior campaign in 2021-22 with career-highs in scoring (14.4 ppg) and rebounding (3.4 rpg), adding 4.4 apg and 1.5 spg to his totals. In his career, Halloran racked up 1,422 points, putting him in the top-20 in Belmont Abbey's program history, adding 324 rebounds along the way.
Halloran graduated with his master's degree at Elon in science and business analytics and earned his bachelor's in sport management from Belmont Abbey in 2022.
