On Deck
The Phoenix will begin SoCon play at Appalachian State this weekend. Friday’s first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. Following that series, Elon will return home to take on East Carolina on March 15 at 6 p.m.
Closing it Out
Since 2007 Elon has been very good at closing out games. The Phoenix has gone a combined 139-11 (.927) when leading after seven innings and 143-12 (.923) when holding a lead following the eighth inning.
Pritchard Honored by SoCon
For the first time in his four-year Elon career, senior infielder
Neal Pritchard has been selected as the Southern Conference Player of the Week in baseball. Pritchard was recognized on Monday for games played between Feb. 28 and March 6.
During Elon’s five-game week, Pritchard reached base safely in each game, batting .615 with two home runs and eight RBI. He belted out eight hits and scored seven runs. He also drove home a season-high four runs in a victory over West Virginia as the Phoenix improved to 3-1 against Big East competition. The Asheboro, N.C. native posted a .737 on-base percentage, a 1.154 slugging percentage and had three multi-RBI outings.
400
Elon’s 6-2 victory over Wright State on March 5 marked the 400th win of the program’s tenure at the NCAA Division I level. Elon’s first year of Division I play was the 2000 season. In that time, Elon has posted a record of 401-262-2.
Home Run Drought Over
With
Neal Pritchard’s two-run home run in the fifth inning against West Virginia, Elon put an end to a six-game homerless streak. The Phoenix had not gone six or more games without a homer since 2006 when Elon failed to belt a long ball in its first seven games of the year.
30+
Elon has recorded 11 consecutive seasons with at least 30 victories after picking up win number 30 in game two at Wofford in 2010. Elon has won 33, 30, 34, 34, 31, 32, 45, 32, 44, 41 and 38 games prior to this season. The 45 victories in the 2006 campaign set a new school record. In this time, the Phoenix has made five NCAA Division I Regional appearances (2002, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010).
