Long Honored on Men’s Basketball All-State Team

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Elon senior Chris Long was one of 10 student-athletes to be named to the 2010-11 North Carolina Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) University Division All-State Men’s Basketball team. Long, an All-Southern Conference performer in his final season in the maroon and gold, was one of five players to be selected first-team all-state.

Long averaged a career-best and team-high 14.7 points per game in 2010-11 while also leading the Southern Conference with 6.0 assists per game. His assist numbers ranked in the top 20 in the nation and the point guard ended his career with 528 helpers, second-most in Elon history. The native of Charleston, W. Va. dished off 188 assists this year to rank second on the school’s single-season chart. Long became the 33rd Elon player to score at least 1,000 points, eclipsing the mark with a free throw at UNC Greensboro on January 10th. On senior night in Alumni Gym, Long dumped in a career-high 30 points and contributed 10 assists to help the Phoenix sweep the season series with UNCG. He completed his career in the school’s top five in three-pointers (172), assists (528) and steals (155).

Founded in 2002, The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina. The purpose of the organization is to promote collegiate athletics at all schools. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information.
