ELON, N.C. -- Ten former Elon baseball players are continuing to work toward their dream of playing Major League Baseball. The 10 are scattered throughout the different levels of the minors. Here is a look at how their 2011 seasons are progressing.
Chase Austin (3B; Jupiter Hammerheads; Advanced A; Florida Marlins)
Austin has appeared in 41 games for the Hammerheads and his hitting .171. He has driven in 13 runs and has three doubles, a triple and a homer in 146 at bats. Austin has drawn 10 walks and is 2-for-3 in stolen base attempts this season.
Zach Booker (DH; Norfolk Tides; AAA; Baltimore Orioles)
Booker has not appeared in a game this season as he has been on the disabled list.
Daniel Britt (RHP; Wisconsin Timber Rattlers; A; Milwaukee Brewers)
Britt has made 11 appearances, nine of which have come out of the bullpen, for the Timber Rattlers this season. He boasts a 3-1 record and 5.04 ERA. In 25.0 innings, Britt has walked seven and struck out 20. In his debut this year, Britt picked up the win with four scoreless innings out of the pen. On May 18, Britt tossed seven innings in just his second start of the year. In that outing he allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits while fanning eight.
Cory Harrilchak (OF; Mississippi Braves; AA; Atlanta Braves)
Through 46 games, Harrilchak is hitting .205 with 16 runs scored for the Braves. Of his 34 hits, 15 have gone for extra bases (11 doubles, two triples, two homers) and he has driven in 14 runs. Harrilchak has also drawn 19 walks and is 5-for-10 in stolen base attempts in 2011.
Steven Hensley (RHP; Jackson Generals; AA; Seattle Mariners)
Hensley has made just five starts this season for the Generals and is currently on the disabled list. He has gone 0-3 with a 3.65 ERA in those five appearances. Over 24.2 innings, Hensley has walked 11 and fanned 21 hitters. In his season debut, Hensley hurled five innings, allowing two runs (one earned) and striking out five against the Mississippi Braves.
Justin Hilt (OF; Yakima Bears; Short-Season A; Arizona Diamondbacks)
After starting the season with the Class A Visalia Rawhide, Hilt has been reassigned to the Bears. In 29 games with the Rawhide, Hilt hit .189 with 11 runs scored, three doubles, two homers and nine RBI. He was also 3-for-4 in stolen bases.
Matt McSwain (RHP; Altoona Curve; AA; Pittsburgh Pirates)
McSwain begain the year with the Class A Bradenton Marauders before being promoted to the Curve. Between his two stops, McSwain has gone 3-1 with a 3.79 ERA in 14 appearances which includes one start. He has logged 35.2 innings, walking just nine hitters and striking out 26. McSwain has held opponents to a .246 batting average.
J.D. Reichenbach (LHP; Lake County Captains; A; Cleveland Indians)
Reichenbach has made 14 relief appearances for the Captains in 2011, posting a 3-1 record with a 3.86 ERA. He has tossed 35.0 innings, issuing just nine walks and striking out 26 hitters. Opponents are hitting .267 off of Reichenbach. He picked up his first win of the year on April 14 with four scoreless frames against the Dayton Dragons.
Jimmy Reyes (LHP; Hickory Crawdads; A; Texas Rangers)
After spending time at extended spring training working to rehab an injury, Reyes was assigned to the Crawdads. He has appeared in five games out of the bullpen, posting a 1-0 record and a 3.38 ERA. In eight innings, Reyes has walked two and struck out 10. His first victory of the season came on May 29 when he tossed two scoreless frames, striking out three, at the West Virginia Power.
Dallas Tarleton (C; Modesto Nuts; Advanced A; Colorado Rockies)
Tarleton has made 40 appearances for the Nuts in 2011. Over 114 at bats he has fashioned a .289 batting average. Tarleton has scored 20 runs and driven in 20 while also drawing 27 walks. He has tallied two double and two triple while swiping one base in three attempts.
