CARY, N.C. – Elon men’s tennis players
Cameron Silverman and
Eric Turner won all three of their doubles matches this weekend against some of the country’s top competition at the 2011 Duke Fab Four Invite to earn the Group B1 Doubles title. Silverman and Turner rebounded from two match points down in the final to defeat Virginia Tech’s Lucas Oliveira and Hunter Koontz, 9-8.
The Phoenix doubles pair opened competition with an 8-6 round one victory against Cale Hammond and Jason Tahir. Silverman and Turner then advanced to the finals with an 8-5 decision against Charlie Ghriskey and Ben Hoogland of William & Mary.
Silverman also performed well in singles, playing in the top tier draw and advancing to the consolation finals. After falling to Duke’s Henrique Cunha, the fourth-ranked player in the country, Silverman rebounded with a 6-7, 6-1, 1-0 (8) victory over Corrado Tocci of Virginia Tech. The sophomore then defeated Hammond, 6-4, 6-2, before falling to Louisville’s Robert Hall in the finals, 6-4, 6-4.
