SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Kris Harris has been named the Southern Conference’s Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 19, the league office announced today.

The freshman recorded a total of 17 blocks in 14 sets played last week, including a career-high eight blocks against North Carolina Central. The middle blocker recorded no less than three blocks in all of Elon’s four matches.

Harris also recorded 36 kills off 76 attempts with only 10 errors to hit .342 and average 2.57 kills per set. The Apex, N.C., native set a career-high 10 kills at High Point on Sept. 13, followed by a new career-high 11 kills against Winthrop on Sept. 17. Harris’ strong play at the net helped Elon go 3-1 last week and earned her Elon Phoenix Classic All-Tournament honors.

Elon will begin SoCon play this weekend with matches at rival UNCG on Friday, Sept. 23, at 6 p.m. and a at College of Charleston on Sunday, Sept. 25, at 2 p.m.
