Rain Cancels Final Round of Lady Pirate Intercollegiate

Final Results

GREENVILLE, N.C. --
Final round action of the 2012 Lady Pirate Intercollegiate has been cancelled due to unplayable conditions.  Monday's results now become the final results and the Elon women's program will claim a fourth-place finish with a score of 302.

The two-day, 54-hole event, which was being contested at the Greenville Country Club, was reduced to an 18-hole tournament after torrential rain Monday afternoon.

The Phoenix was led by Martyna Mierzwa whose even-par round of 72 placed her in a tie for fourth individually in the field of 104 players.  Her performance earned her all-tournament honors.

Mierzwa began her first round with a birdie on the par-three eighth hole.  She followed that up with another birdie to quickly get to two-under.  She would finish the round with four birdies.

Emily Brooks fired a two-over 74 to finish in a tie for 15th.  Brooks notched birdies on both the par-four 17th and the par-five 18th holes.  She was followed by Sunna Vidisdottir who carded a 77 on Monday.  She was tied for 33rd and had two biridies.

In a tie for 48th were Katie Partridge and Kathryn Buckingham.  Both posted a 79 during their first rounds of the tournament.  Partridge tallied two birdies and Buckingham had one.

Maryland's Juliet Vongphoumy's round of 68 earned her individual medalist honors.  She edged out Boston College's Cristina McQuiston by two strokes.

The team title was claimed by Maryland at 295.  UNC Wilmington also posted a 295, but due to the fifth player tie-breaker rule, Maryland was awarded the title.  Old Dominion's 301 placed the Monarchs third.

The Phoenix held off 33rd-ranked Coastal Carolina, Southern Miss and Longwood by one stroke.  Host and 38th-rated East Carolina finished eighth at 305.  Boston College (307) and Yale (308) rounded out the top 10.

Other Southern Conference programs in the 20-team event were Samford (11th; 309), UNCG (T12th; 311) and Western Carolina (T19th; 325).

Elon will conclude its fall schedule at the Palmetto Intercollegiate in Kiawah Island, S.C., on Oct. 27-28.
