BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Twenty-one innings and over five hours after the day began, the Elon baseball team completed a three-game series sweep of the Samford Bulldogs on the road on Sunday. The Phoenix first finished off a suspended game, claiming a 5-3 win in 18 innings, before completing the sweep with a 7-5 victory.

Alex Swim had an incredible weekend. The Elon catcher went 12-for-19 and extended his hitting streak to 22 games.
Sunday's action picked up in the top of the seventh inning after lightning forced the suspension of game two of Saturday's doubleheader. With the score knotted at one and
Chris Bresnahan on third,
Niko Fraser tripled home the go-ahead run for Elon. The Bulldogs immediately tied it in the bottom of the seventh.
After nine scoreless innings, Elon broke through with a run in the top of the 17th. With one out,
Sebastian Gomez singled and went to third on a Swim single. A balk allowed Gomez to score to make it 3-2. Once again Samford answered. Phillip Ervin led off the bottom half with a homer to knot it back up.
The Phoenix seized the lead for good in the 18th.
Eric Serra was hit by a pitch to lead off and was bunted over to second before racing home on
Quinn Bower's two-out single to center. The throw home was knocked away as Serra scored and Bower ended up at third. He then scored on Fraser's single as Elon claimed the 5-3 lead.
Samford loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom half, but could not push across a run.
Nate Young (3-1) was the winning pitcher as he gave up one run on three hits in two innings. The Phoenix received a stellar relief performance from
Kyle Webb. Webb tossed six scoreless frames, scattering six hits.
In the final game of the series, Elon jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a sac fly in the first before Samford tied the game in the second.
The Phoenix grabbed the lead for good in the second by scoring three runs. Fraser led off with a walk and went to second on a Gomez single. With one out, a
Ryan Kinsella single loaded the bases. After a ground out plated Fraser,
Jake Luce tripled home both Gomez and Kinsella to make it a 4-1 contest.
Samford got two in the bottom half before Elon took a 5-3 lead on a Swim single in the fourth. The Phoenix tacked on two runs in the seventh, one on a Koster double and another on a Luce single to make it 7-3.
The Bulldogs made it interesting in the bottom of the ninth, scoring twice on a bases-loaded double from Brandon Miller before
John Antonelli closed it out for his first save.
