ELON, N.C. -- Elon women's golfer
Virginia Mayer was announced as one of the 11 members of the Capital One Academic All-District III selection to the at-large team. This is the second such honor for Mayer in her career.
The senior from Charlotte, N.C., carries a 4.00 GPA in accounting and finance who was also recognized last year. Her selection makes her eligible for Academic All-America honors.
Mayer competed in 28 rounds over 10 events for the Phoenix this year, averaging a 78.29 per round. Her best finish came at the Terrier Intercollegiate where she tied for eighth among the 54 participants. She placed in a 10th-place tie in the field of 75 at the Low Country Intercollegiate. Mayer posted a low round of 74 on three occasions over the course of the year.
For her academic prowess, Mayer was named Elon's female recipient of the A.L. Hook Award for the second straight year. This honor is presented to the male and female junior or senior student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA. She also took home her squad's Leadership Award this year.
