DURHAM, N.C. -- Elon softball players Erin O'Shea and Tomeka Watson were named as two of the 12 players on the 2012 North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) University Division All-State Softball Team released Friday.

Watson, a junior outfielder, has earned the honor in each of her three seasons in the maroon and gold while O'Shea, a senior pitcher, also collected the distinction in 2010.

Watson led the Phoenix this past season with a .371 batting average and 34 RBI. Watson also recorded a .576 slugging percentage and a .442 on base percentage, while also earning a perfect fielding percentage after no errors on the season. Her 27 stolen bases this year ranks fourth on the Elon individual season records list. The Jackson, Ga., native only struck out three times on the season in her 151 at bats and finished as the fourth hardest player to strikeout in the nation. She earned NFCA Division I Mideast All-Region First Team and second-team All-SoCon accolades this season.

O'Shea, of Kennesaw, Ga., led the Phoenix with a 16-16 record and sported a 3.20 ERA in the circle this season. She held opponents to a .227 batting average and posted 143 strikeouts. Also a standout at the plate, O'Shea hit .287 with 16 runs scored, six doubles, five homers and 31 RBI. O'Shea was honored as the SoCon Player of the Week on March 12 after hitting .714 with four runs and four RBI. She concluded her career with 467 strikeouts, second all-time in program history.

Founded in 2002, NCCSIA is comprised of sports information professionals from North Carolina’s NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions for the purpose of promoting college athletics in the state. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina whose responsibilities include sports information.

NCCSIA selects all-state teams in the university (NCAA Division I) and college (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, softball and baseball.
