ELON, N.C. – Elon University’s 42nd Sports Hall of Fame class, which will be inducted at 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 8, includes baseball player Whit Bryant, women's basketball player Lakia Hayes, softball player Kelly Lloyd and football players Brandon Mason and Derrick Moore. The event, which is open to the public, will be held in Whitley Auditorium on the Elon campus.

The five inductees will also be recognized that evening during a halftime ceremony of Elon’s football game between the Phoenix and North Carolina Central at Rhodes Stadium.

Bryant was a four-year baseball letter-winner (1999-2002) and helped the maroon and gold to its first-ever NCAA Division I national tournament appearance in the sport in 2002.  A two-way player, Bryant was the first Elon player to ever record 200 career hits, finishing with 280 hits, a mark that still ranks second in program history.  He is also the school's record-holder with 55 career doubles and 189 RBI and ranks among the program's top-10 in career games played (5th, 226), at bats (2nd, 822), runs scored (9th, 160).  On the mound he is Elon's career leader with 49 starts and rates among the program's all-time top-10 in strikeouts (5th, 233).  Bryant hit .341 over the span of his career and hit 25 homers and stole 36 bases.  As a pitcher, he went 21-16 with a 4.47 ERA as he helped the program transition to NCAA Division I status.  Bryant twice led the team in batting average (.362 in 2000 and .380 in 2002), hits (75 in 2000 and 81 in 2002) and RBI (56 in 2000 and 54 in 2001) and paced the squad in homers in 2001 (eight).  On the mound he led the team with 89.2 innings pitched in 2001, with a 2.67 ERA in 2000 and with six victories in 2000.  Bryant earned the Basnight Award as Elon's top male athlete in both 2001 and 2002.  He was a first-team All-Big South selection as an outfielder in both 2000 and 2002 and was a second-team outfielder in 2001.  In 2000, he also earned second-team All-Big South honors as a pitcher.  In his four seasons, the Phoenix earned seven victories over top-25 opponents, including two wins over the nation's top-ranked team (13-6 at Miami in 1999 and 8-6 at Clemson in 2002).  He was drafted in the 24th round of the 2002 Major League Baseball Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies.

A 2003 graduate of Elon, Bryant resides in Browns Mills, N.J., where he is a physical education teacher in the Mount Laurel Public Schools.  Bryant and his wife Deanna have one son, Brooks.

Hayes was a three-year letter-winner for the women's basketball team (1996-98) and led the team in both scoring and rebounding in her three seasons in the maroon and gold.  She earned All-South Atlantic Conference honors in both 1996 and 1997 and was an honorable mention All-American in both 1997 and 1998.  She also was selected as Elon's female Basnight winner in both 1997 and 1998.  In three seasons she netted 1,353 points, a number which still ranks eighth in program history.  Her 17.1 points per game average is tied for the third-best in Elon history.  She holds the school's career record with a .787 (380-483) free throw percentage and also rates among the program's career top-10 in free throws made (2nd, 380) and attempted (2nd, 483), rebounds (5th, 782) and rebounds per game (3rd, 9.9).  Hayes is one of four Elon players to go a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line in a game, accomplishing the feat against Carson-Newman on Feb. 27, 1997.  On two occasions Hayes pulled down 19 rebounds in a game, a number which is tied for the fourth-most ever for an Elon player.  She is also tied for the best field goal percentage in a game in program history as she shot .833 (10-12) from the field against Lees-McRae on Nov. 18, 1995, and holds the top two spots in the Elon record book for most free throws made in a game - 15 at Lenoir-Rhyne on Jan. 25, 1997, and 14 at Wingate on Feb. 17, 1996.  Hayes' name appears three times in the program's single-season record list for free throws made as she knocked down the second, third and fifth-most shots from the charity stripe (129 in 1996-97, 128 in 1997-98 and 123 in 1995-96).  She is one of just four Elon women to ever grab 300 or more rebounds in a single season, collecting 307 boards (seventh place) in 1996-97.  Hayes would average 11.4 rebounds per outing that season.

A 1998 graduate of Elon, Hayes resides in Lithonia, Ga., where she is a health and physical education teacher with the Dekalb County School System.  Hayes and her husband Mike Morton have one son, Davis.

Lloyd lettered in softball four seasons (1996-1999) and was the nation's toughest player to strike out in 1998 (no strikeouts in 110 at bats).  That same season she earned first-team South Atlantic All-Region accolades as she hit .373 with 13 doubles and 21 RBI.  She led the team three times in batting average (.363 in 1996, .445 in 1997 and .331 in 1999) and doubles (five in 1996, 14 in 1997 and 10 in 1999).  Lloyd also was the team's top home run hitter in 1997 (four) and 1999 (three) and RBI producer in 1996 (30) and 1999 (15).  Her .381 career batting average still rates as the best in the program's fast pitch history as does her .445 batting average in 1997.  She is also the program's record-holder with a .561 career slugging percentage.  Lloyd ranks among the softball program's career top-10 in runs (T10th, 90), hits (8th, 191), doubles (3rd, 42), triples (T9th, nine) and RBI (4th, 102).  Over the course of her career Lloyd struck out just 20 times in 501 at bats.

A 1999 graduate of Elon, Lloyd resides in Smyrna, Del., where she works for Kord Technologies as a project manager.  Lloyd has two children - a son, Nathan, and a daughter, Lindsey.

Mason was a four-year football letter-winner at center (2001-04).  He was a second-team All-Big South honoree in 2002 and earned first-team All-SoCon distinction in both 2003 and 2004.  Mason was recognized by The Football Gazette as the National Offensive Lineman of the Week on four occasions during his career and was a first-team All-FCS selection by CollegeSportsReport.com following his senior season.  At the conclusion of his senior campaign, Mason was a first-team All-American by College Sporting News, a second-team All-American by The Football Gazette and was a second-team All-South Region honoree.  Mason was a third-team All-South Region player in 2003.  A stellar student, Mason was chosen as a FCS Athletic Driectors Association Academic All-Star (2002, 2003 and 2004), was a first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection (2003 and 2004), a second-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American (2003) and a first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American (2004).  In 2004 he was awarded both the FCS ADA Postgraduate Scholarship and the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Postgraduate Scholarship.  Mason was named the SoCon's Student-Athlete of the Week once in his career.

A 2004 graduate of Elon, Mason resides in High Point, N.C., where he is the Sarbanes-Oxley Manager with the United Guaranty Corp.  He and his wife Jill have an infant son, Connor.

Moore was a four-year letter-winner at quarterback for the Elon football program (1997-2000) who was ideal for running the maroon and gold's triple-option attack.  In 44 career games under center, Moore threw for 2,476 yards and 23 touchdowns, while rushing for 3,197 yards and 32 scores.  His rushing total still rates as the third-highest in program history.  Moore concluded his career with 5,723 total offensive yards, a number which was a school record at the time and that still is the second-highest total in program history.  In each of his four seasons, Moore accounted for over 1,300 total offensive yards.  He has two of the three longest runs from scrimmage ever by an Elon player, including a 90-yard scamper against Morehead State in 1998 that is the longest run.  Moore was also the quarterback on the eighth-longest pass play in school history - a 78-yard connection to Jerry Wallace against Western Carolina in 1997.  He led the team in rushing in three seasons (906 yards in 1997, 834 yards in 1998 and 807 yards in 2000) and for four years in passing (572 yards in 1997, 526 yards in 1998, 660 yards in 1999 and 768 yards in 2000).  Moore amassed 196 total points which places him 10th on the program's all-time chart.

A 2001 graduate of Elon, Moore resides in New Bern, N.C., where he is in management at Waffle House.  He and his wife Karen have two children - a son, Derrick, Jr., and a daughter, Takota Sue.
