ELON, N.C. -- The Elon University baseball team has selected four team captains for the upcoming 2013 campaign. Serving as captains this year will be senior left-handed pitcher
Dylan Clark, senior outfielder
Niko Fraser, senior catcher
Alex Swim and junior infielder
Sebastian Gomez.
"I am excited about this year's group of captains," said Phoenix head coach
Mike Kennedy. "This group has meant a lot to this program and they each are deserving of this honor. All four are unique in how they lead and I am sure that our team will respond well to their leadership."
Clark, a native of Manchester, N.H., led the maroon and gold in victories in 2012 as he went 9-4 with a 3.76 ERA over 15 appearances during his junior season. Clark issued just 18 walks and struck out 64 in a team-high 88.2 innings. Opponents hit just .244 off of him and he earned one Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week honor a year ago. In his career at Elon, Clark sports a 12-9 record with a 3.89 ERA. He has logged 173.2 innings and struck out 118 while walking 59.

Swim, who was named as a third-team preseason All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association this year, was a 36th round selection by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2012 MLB Draft. The first-team All-SoCon and NCCSIA All-State selection started all 59 games for the Phoenix in 2012. Swim led the team and tied for third in the league with a .357 batting average. The Greensboro, N.C., native also led the team with 86 hits which are tied for the third most ever in a season in program history and ranked him 56th in the nation. Swim rated as the 12th toughest player in the country to strikeout, fanning just once per every 18.5 at bats. He notched a 25-game hit streak in 2012. For his career, Swim has hit .316 with 113 runs, 36 doubles, five home runs and 118 RBI. His 222 career hits rank ninth in program history.
