Elon Comes Up With Road Win at Davidson

DAVIDSON, N.C. –
The Elon University men’s tennis team remained unblemished in Southern Conference play, as the Phoenix defeated Davidson, 6-1, on Wednesday, March 13, at the Covington Tennis Courts.
 
Elon improves to 6-4 (2-0 SoCon) with the win, while the Wildcats fall to 8-5 (2-2 SoCon) with the setback.
 
The Phoenix swept all three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 match lead. Cameron Silverman and Stefan Fortmann, ranked 34th in the nation as a tandem, claimed an 8-6 win over Ethan Kallick and Joe Schafer at the top spot. Robert Lindgren and Brian Kowalski were also victorious at No. 2, while Jordan Kaufman and Juan Madrid helped secure the doubles sweep with a win at No. 3.
 
Elon came out victorious in five of six singles matches, including a pair of three-set battles. At No. 2, Fortmann claimed a 6-7, 6-2, 10-7, win over Schafer, who was tabbed the SoCon Player of the Week earlier this week. Kowalski overcame a 6-1 loss to Davidson’s Connor Evins in the first set to win his match with a 6-2, 6-4, decision in the second and third.
 
Silverman, ranked 38th in the nation in singles, improved to 6-4 on the year with a swift 6-1, 6-3, victory at No. 1 against Davidson’s Nicky Kunz.
 
Lindgren registered a 6-4, 6-4, win at No. 3 against Chris Mark, while Carlos Arboleda was victorious at No. 6 with a 6-3, 6-1, decision versus Alex Howard.
 
Elon returns to the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center this weekend for a pair of home matches. The Phoenix hosts Wofford on Saturday, March 16, at 1 p.m. before welcoming in Furman on Sunday at 1 p.m.
