ELON, N.C. – The Elon University football team concluded its morning practice session on Thursday, April 11. Head coach
Jason Swepson caught up with us to discuss today's practice, his team’s progress and his seletion for this week's Masters Tournament.
Swepson on today’s practice:
“Today was a very good practice. We took a lot of steps in the right direction and everyone came out with a lot of energy. We’re beginning to fall into a routine and beginning to adjust to being in pads. I’m really looking forward to Saturday’s practice.”
“Everyone came out with the right attitude. Instead of coming out and trying to get through practice, they came out with the mindset of attacking practice.”
Swepson on the progress of the offense:
“The offense is still a work in progress with so many new guys learning the playbook. But it’s not like the first day where we only had one run play and one pass play. We have over half the playbook in at this point and I’m excited about the effort they’ve given day in and day out. They’re studying on their own and watching film on their own and it definitely showed today.”
Swepson on the progress of the defense:
“Our defense is strong right now. We’re healthy for the most part and moving along. They’ve played a lot of football coming into the spring and know what it takes to get better every day.”
Swepson on Elon’s first scrimmage a week from Saturday:
“Being healthy going into the first scrimmage is the most important thing for us. What we’re looking for the most is just seeing guys line up and compete and use their technique.”
Swepson on who he thinks will win this week’s Masters Tournament:
“I’ll take the field, but I like Justin Rose. I think he let one slip at Bay Hill, but I think he’s going to get after it this weekend.”
