RICHMOND, Va. – Elon redshirt freshman quarterback Landen Clark was honored as the CAA Rookie of the Week for the second straight week following the Phoenix's win against Western Carolina. Punter
Jeff Yurk was also named the CAA Co-Special Teams Player of the Week, as the conference released its weekly football awards Monday.Â
Â
Clark accounted for a career-high 377 yards of offense in the win over the Catamounts last Saturday. For the second straight week, he added four touchdowns to his season tally with two passing and two rushing scores. Clark sealed the Elon win with a 10-yard rushing score with under five minutes left to give the Phoenix their first win over Western Carolina since 2013. Â
Yurk now holds the Elon single-game record for punting average after his performance in Cullowhee. Yurk's six punts averaged 55.2 yards, which broke a 17-year-old school record once held by Brandon Lane. Yurk booted five of his punts 50 yards or more and set a new career high with a 74-yard punt in the first half. Â
Â
This is Clark's second weekly award at the helm of the Phoenix offense. He is the first Elon quarterback with a pair of CAA Rookie of the Week awards since Davis Cheek was awarded the honor twice in 2017. Â
Yurk has been no stranger to winning the CAA Special Teams Player of the Week award in his time with the Maroon & Gold. Yurk has been named the player of the week for special teams four times at Elon dating back to his first award selection in 2022. Â
Â
Clark, Yurk, and the Phoenix return to the gridiron this Saturday against East Tennessee State. Kickoff between Elon and the Buccaneers will be at 5:30 PM in Johnson City, Tenn.Â
