SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Elon first baseman
Ryan Kinsella has earned the first Southern Conference Player of the Week honor of his career after helping the Phoenix to three wins last week. With its performance over the weekend, the maroon and gold is now atop the SoCon standings.
A native of Warren, N.J., the junior hit .400 (8-for-20) with five runs scored, two doubles, three home runs and 12 RBI in Elon's five games last week. He recorded at least one hit and one RBI in every outing. In his five games, Kinsella posted a .950 slugging percentage along with a .520 on-base percentage.
Kinsella began the week with a 2-for-4 day at the plate in a win over High Point. In that game, he drove in four and homered once. In Friday's series opener at The Citadel, Kinsella went 1-for-5, but tied his career high with five RBI and homered. He then made it back-to-back games with a homer when he went 2-for-3 with two runs scored in game two against the Bulldogs. In that game, he also doubled.
On the season, Kinsella is hitting .328. He leads the Southern Conference in homers (11), RBI (44), total bases (92) and is tied for the league lead in doubles (13). Kinsella sits third in the SoCon with a .687 slugging percentage.
Kinsella and the Phoenix will be back in action on Tuesday evening when the maroon and gold hosts top-ranked North Carolina at 6:30 p.m. at Latham Park.
