Series Notes
Elon and Coastal Carolina have met just twice prior to this weekend's tilt. Each team has one victory, both on the road. The Chanticleers picked up a 17-10 win over Elon in the 2005 season opener at Rhodes Stadium. The maroon and gold then upended #25 Coastal Carolina 23-20 in the first game of 2006.

Elon vs. the Big South
Against current Big South football schools, Elon has compiled an all-time mark of 58-33-2. The maroon and gold has faced all current members of the Big South. Elon has gone 4-0 vs. Charleston Southern, 1-1 vs. Coastal Carolina, 20-9 vs. Gardner-Webb, 8-4 vs. Liberty, 24-18-2 vs. Presbyterian and 1-1 vs. VMI.

Elon's Big South History
Elon was a founding member of the Big South Conference in football as the league began sponsoring the sport in 2002. It was Elon's only year in the league as the Phoenix moved to the SoCon the following season. That season, the league had just four teams. The other three were Charleston Southern, Gardner-Webb and Liberty. Elon went 2-1 vs. Big South opponents that year.

Elon on Family Weekend
In its previous 12 Family Weekend tilts in Rhodes Stadium, the Phoenix has compiled a record of 9-3 and has won four of the last five.

Petroni Collects League Honor
Freshman punter David Petroni was honored as the SoCon Freshman of the Week for games played on Saturday, Sept. 21. The Buford, Ga., native averaged 43.5 yards on six punts against Appalachian State. The strong-legged punter placed five of his six punts inside the App State 20-yard line, giving him 13 of his 22 punts inside the opponent's 20-yard line on the year. He forced two fair catches and had a long punt of 50 yards in the contest.

Ground Game
Against Appalachian State, Elon ran for 193 yards – the most against a Division I opponent for the program since Nov. 7, 2009 when the squad amassed 237 yard on the ground in a 42-17 victory at Western Carolina. In the game against ASU, Elon lost just four yards on the ground all night, and the first lost yard on a rush did not come until less than five minutes remained in the third quarter.

Williams Named to Good Works Team
Junior defensive back Miles Williams has been named to the 22-player roster for the 2013 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. William is involved in numerous community service projects in the Elon and Burlington communities. The junior has mentored and tutored at-risk youth through the Positive Attitudes Youth Center as well as a tutoring program at Elon First Baptist Church. He was named the 2012 Counselor of the Summer while serving with the Alamance County Community YMCA. Williams has also been involved with Special Olympics, Elonthon and Phoenix Field Day. In January, Williams will travel to Africa as a part of the Friends of Ghana program. While in Ghana, he will assist the city of Sokode with construction of a middle school and raising scholarship funds. The group will also aid in a Heifer International livestock improvement project and provide school supplies for a number of Ghanaian children.

Recognizing the "good works" of a select group of college football players from across the country, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team is one of the most prestigious off-the-field honors in college sports.  The award pays tribute to the positive impact these young athletes have had on their communities and the lives of others.

Elon University will be celebrating its quasquicentennial (125th) year of operation this academic year. Elon was chartered on March 11, 1889 and the university has committed to a year-long celebration of this milestone.
