NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Elon rising sophomore infielder
Nick Zammarelli has been selected to participate in the 2014 New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) All-Star Game, as announced by the league office. Zammarelli, who is playing for the Newport Gulls this summer, will be the reserve third baseman on the South Division squad.
Each All-Star Team is comprised of nine slots for pitchers (starting pitcher, seven relievers, closer); a starter and two substitute catchers; a starter and substitute for the four remaining infield positions; a starter and substitute designated hitter; three starting outfielders and three reserve outfielders; and one coach's selection by each manager for a total of 29 players per squad.
In 24 games this summer, Zammarelli is hitting .330 with 10 runs scored, two homers and 19 RBI. His six doubles are tied for the team lead. His performance has helped the Gulls to a 16-10 overall record and a second-place standing in the Southern Division.
The 21st NECBL All-Star Game will be held Sunday, July 20, at MacKenzie Stadium, the home of the Valley Blue Sox, in Holyoke, Mass.
