Four Phoenix Players on CFPA Watch Lists

ELON, N.C. – A total of four Elon football players have been named to six watch lists by College Football Performance Awards (CFPA). Quarterback Mike Quinn, kicker John Gallagher and punter David Petroni are each on lists for their respective positions, while Kierre Brown appeared on lists for kick returner, punt returner and all-purpose performer.

All four individuals are eligible for the organization's award at their position. Those awards will be announced in January of 2015.

Quinn, a senior, set a Southern Conference record by tossing 210 consecutive passes without an interception in his first year as the starting quarterback for the Phoenix. In 12 games in 2013, the Wayne, N.J., native threw for 2,618 yards and 17 touchdowns while completing 62.2 percent of his passes. Quinn passed for a career-best 326 yards and three scores against Western Carolina a year ago.

Gallagher earned Southern Conference All-Freshman honors following a year in which he led the team with 70 points. Gallagher, who hails from Caldwell, N.J., was a perfect 31-for-31 on extra points and hit 13 field goals in 2013. Over his final three outings, Gallagher made six of his seven field goal attempts. His longest field goal was a 48-yarder against Western Carolina. On kickoffs, he averaged 61.7 yards and recorded 25 touchbacks.

A native of Buford, Ga., Petroni was a Southern Conference All-Freshman Team honoree a year ago after averaging 42.1 yards on 73 punts. Petroni drilled 14 punts of 50 or more yards and placed 33 punts inside the 20-yard line. He was awarded one SoCon Special Teams Player of the Week accolade and was named the recipient of the squad's Most Outstanding Special Teams Award.

Brown, a senior from Charlotte, N.C., was Elon's team MVP following his junior season. As a kick returner, Brown brought back 38 kicks for 920 yards (24.2 yards per return). He enters the 2014 season needing just 30 yards to become the program's all-time leader in kick return yards. Despite only returning punts for the final three games of the year, he tallied 109 return yards on just five chances, an average of 21.8 yards per return. Among Brown's punt returns was a 56-yard touchdown in the season finale against No. 23 Samford. Brown finished second on the 2013 squad with 50 receptions for 448 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran the ball 14 times for 144 yards.

Elon will open its 2014 campaign on August 30 with a 6 p.m. start at Duke.
