RICHMOND, Va. – The doubles duo of
Stefan Fortmann and
Brian Kowalski earned the Elon University men's tennis team's first weekly honor of the season Feb. 18, as the two were named the Colonial Athletic Association Doubles Team of the Week.
Fortmann and Kowalski are riding a three-match winning streak with the team on a three-match winning streak of its own.
The tandem got started with a 7-6 (4) win over Old Dominion's Adam Moundir and Michael Weindl Feb. 7 and finished that weekend with a 6-1 triumph against No. 59 Virginia Commonwealth's Michal Voscek and Joseph Cohen Feb. 8.
The duo downed Campbell's Steven Billington and Jonathan O'Neal, 8-5, in a 5-2 Elon victory to win their third match in a row and led Presbyterian, 6-5, in the Phoenix's 6-1 win.
Fortmann was a two-time Southern Conference Player of the Month winner in 2014 in addition to collecting Player of the Week honors twice. The South Africa native was a first team All-SoCon selection in singles and was named second team All-SoCon in doubles last spring.
Kowalski was a second team All-SoCon singles selection in 2014, going 13-8 while posting a doubles record of 14-9.
Elon returns to action Feb. 22 against UNC Wilmington.
