ELON, N.C. – The Elon University men's tennis team begins its final road trip of the season on April 8, when the Phoenix travels to take on UNC Greensboro at 2 p.m. at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
The Phoenix is coming off a 1-1 week that included a 4-3 win at Davidson on April 2 and a 5-2 setback to Charlotte on Senior Day April 4.
Stefan Fortmann won the eighth of his last 10 singles matches by defeating the 49ers' Forrest Edwards, 7-5, 6-4. Fortmann currently leads the team with 11 singles wins, all of which have come at the No. 1 position. His win against Edwards was his 59
th career dual match victory, tying him with Chase Helpingstine for third in school history.

Brian Kowalski won their fourth straight match on April 2 at Davidson, an 8-5 win against the Wildcats' Jack Riazza and Evan Watkins. The duo, which was honored by the Colonial Athletic Association as the Doubles Team of the Week on Feb. 18, is 9-1 in its last 10 matches.
UNCG (10-8) has won four of its last five matches and is 7-3 at home this season. The Spartans went 2-0 last week, picking up wins against Wofford (5-2) and Chattanooga (4-3) on April 4 and 5, respectively.
The Spartans are led by Randy Phillips, who has a record of 15-3 at No. 1 singles this season. Phillips is 8-2 in his last 10 matches.
The Phoenix and Spartans, former rivals in the Southern Conference, have split each of the last two decisions. The last matchup between the two schools was a 6-1 Elon victory at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center in 2014.
LOOKING BACK: Elon fell to 8-11 on the season after a 5-2 loss to red-hot Charlotte on Senior Day April 4, stretching the 49ers winning streak to 12 matches.
LOOKING AHEAD: Elon plays its final regular season match on April 11, when the Phoenix takes on East Carolina in Greenville. Following its match against the Pirates, Elon will head to Williamsburg, Va., for the Colonial Athletic Association tournament April 16-19.
KAUFMAN HONORED: Jordan Kaufman collected the team's third weekly honor of the season on March 31, as the senior was named Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week. Kaufman clinched Elon's win at College of Charleston on March 24 with a three-set triumph over Brice Allanic and has won four of his last five singles matches.
GIVING BACK: Elon's men's and women's tennis teams held a clinic for the youth of Alamance County on March 26 at the Burlington Tennis Center. Phoenix players and coaches led about 75 elementary and middle school-aged kids through various drills to teach them the skills of the game.
HEAD COACH MICHAEL LEONARD: Leonard is in his 11
th season as director of tennis and head men's tennis coach at Elon. He is a five-time recipient of the SoCon Coach of the Year award, having won the honor the last two seasons. Leonard guided the Phoenix to back-to-back SoCon titles in 2013 and 2014, as well as a second NCAA Tournament appearance in 2014.
ROAD TO WILLIAMSBURG: The Colonial Athletic Association men's tennis tournament will take place in Williamsburg, Va., April 16-19. This season is Elon's first in the CAA after 11 years in the Southern Conference. While in the SoCon, the Phoenix won regular season titles in 2006, 2007, 2011, 2013 and 2014, and captured the SoCon Tournament title in 2007 and 2014.
